Chelmsford set for star-studded Radio 2 in the Park festival

Stereophonics

Hylands Park in Chelmsford is set to host BBC Radio 2 in the Park this September, showcasing the renowned venue by welcoming a star-studded line up. From Friday 5 to Sunday 7 September, the festival will celebrate live music, headlined by legendary artists Bryan Adams and Def Leppard.

Positioning Chelmsford once again as a key location on the UK’s music map, Radio 2 in the Park will join the ranks of major events previously held at Hylands Park, including V Festival, RiZE, and Creamfields South.

National Coverage

Music lovers unable to attend in person will still find themselves transported to Chelmsford across the radio waves as the festival is broadcast live from Hylands Park, with most Radio 2 presenters supporting coverage live on site.

As the UK’s most listened-to radio station, Radio 2’s arrival in the city will further enhance the visibility of both Chelmsford and Hylands Park. The exposure may encourage visitors to return after the event to enjoy the venue’s 574 acres of parkland, historic house, and popular café.

Economic Impact

The influx of visitors over the festival weekend is expected to have a substantial economic impact on the local area. Both day trip and overnight visitors will have a host of local businesses to explore as well as the hotels and bed and breakfasts prepared to welcome the festival goers. When Preston hosted Radio 2 in the Park 2024, 16,000 visitors stayed overnight, and it was recorded that only 13% of ticket holders were from Preston.

The £5.3 million that was spent in Preston over the 2024 festival weekend had an invaluable effect not only to the economy but also to the appeal of the city which is now considered a destination for large events.

Chelmsford is expected to experience similar economic impact, potentially creating further opportunities for local development and encouraging future investment in the city.
